Just Actors….Not HEROES

Just Actors….Not HEROES

Please note: - When I refer to actors I mean actresses too.

We Indians are Obsessed with Bollywood. We idolize our actors and actresses. We admire their outfit, hairstyle, physique, cars, and overall lifestyle. In nutshell, we all want to become famous and live a luxurious life like them. I must confess as a teenager even I wanted to. For years, I have released these actors just to train themselves to fit into a movie. Just like other professionals they study and practice the craft, upgrade their skills, work hard, and are confident and talented. So I call them ACTORS and not HEROES.

We often use the word Actors and Heroes interchangeably but they have distinct meanings in real life. An actor refers to any person (male or female) whose profession is acting on the stage, films, or television; whereas; Heroes are the person who is admired for their courage, brave acts, noble qualities, or outstanding achievement. Don’t get me wrong, I do admire their commitment and dedication towards work. Actors do have some unique achievements, abilities, and qualities that differentiate them from others for which they are often regarded as a role model or ideal for others especially youth but most of the times they only pretend to be someone else while performing in a play, movie, television show, radio, etc. They just portray a particular character in a performance for which they get paid and they enjoy a lavish standard of living.

We must have high regard for their contribution but there is a big difference between REAL and REEL heroes. Real Heroes are ordinary people with an extraordinary spirit to serve society, work for the upliftment, and bring a significant impact on the lives of others. Let’s take a look at three of our Real Heroes: -

1.                 COVID 19 warriors: - Our frontline fighters like doctors, nurses, ward boys, pathologists, pharmacists, policemen, sanitation workers, delivery personals, bank employees, government employees, media, providers of essential supplies who are working tirelessly to ensure our safety and security during a crisis.

2.                 Defense and Paramilitary personnel: - Far away from their homes and families they protect us irrespective of our religion, caste, creed, or ethnicity. They stand tall 24*7, in -50degree cold temperature or at 50degree scorching heat to guard us and even sacrifice their lives or peace and safety of the whole nation.

3.                 Parents: - Often underrated they deserve applause for their unconditional love and support. They protect, love, and care about their children no matter how hard the situation is. To safeguard their children they can even risk their lives. We learn values, morals, ethics, and positive behaviour from our parents which lays the foundation for the future.

Heroes are ordinary people who do extraordinary things not just for themselves but for the entire country at large. I humbly request you to answer this question honestly, “What does your hero look like?”

Do share your comments. In my next article, I would like to share a few examples of REAL HEROES. Happy reading…..
